Have We Gone Past Good Taste?

I am a fan of horror. Let me rephrase that, I am a fan of good horror.
Vertigo, Rear Window, Psycho, Nightmare on Elm Street 1, Hellraiser 1, Carrie, Secret Window. But what I have been witness to this last week on some of the discussion boards have nothing to do with horror. Everyone wants just death and ass.
One person said if you want mindless bloodshed watch the news, if you want sex watch a porno. Well I have to agree with them. We watch horror films not just for the high amount of bodies but for the characters. What is more frightening watching someone running through the woods screaming for 2hours or watching how someone slowly begins to doubt reality?
Madness to me has always been creeper then some dude with a hockey mask. There is a reason H.P. Lovecraft is considered the master of horror. He planted the seeds of doubt and panic into all his main characters hinting at something more sinister and darker then we could understand. And he did not need to hide his monsters behind sports gear.
Bram Stoker delighted audiences and made them faint with baited breath when he wrote Dracula over a hundred years ago with the idea of temptation of the soul. Mary Shelley handed the world the beginning of the end when she wrote Frankenstein almost 200 years ago; delivering mortality vs morality.
When did temptation and ego become the gunk we today are clogging our minds with?
I am on another site where the owners are having some troubles with the hosting company. Why? Because they were told to clean up their site. Too much sex too much death. The one owner is trying to locate a place that will let her post uncensored porn and gore. What she isn't understanding is that she's not going to find that on a free hosting site. Nice person but total posterchild for the desensitized generation-sheep I am talking about.
The world is truly a gutter and everyone is just playing in the sewers. Have we become as mindless as the zombies on our screens ;simple sheep , is there a chance for us as a society to free ourselves from this dumbass- watered down -so called demon thrall? Or have we as genre fans gone past good taste because no one is serving us anything but regurgitated slock?

TNA's Turkey Bowl 2008

The second I saw that Alex Shelley had made it past the first round I knew he was going to have to wear the turkey suit.
But damn if he didn't make that a fashion statement. The fact he looked right into the cameras and made comments about it being internet material let's you know that he not only has a good sense of humour, but that he's willing to do whatever for the show.

On the Topic of Vampires...

Okay, so if you read my other blog Alucard's Rose this past week then you know I went to see this film.
And didn't like it.

Well, I never thought I (known to this city's Blockbuster staff and Chapters staff as the Crazy Vampire Lady ) would ever have one of my family members sticking up for a vampire but it happened. My cousin who I would never in a million years have thought would pick up a vampire novel let alone champion it, did just that. She left me a Facebook telling me to read the books. I am all for any story that can get someone around me to pick up a vampire....er um you know what I mean... so I have decided to do just that. This series must have some redeeming qualities if not just my anti-vamp cousin but her daughter and my aunt all are in love with the books.

And by now you have all most likely read in the news that the second book was green lighted for a movie that is to go into production soon. Not too mention the fact Twilight the Movie beat out Sex and the City for box office status as #1 Chick Flick of all time.

Middle of November

And mindless.
Okay, I got back from what is most likely my last trip for the next few years ; I was in Edmonton once again.
Spent way too much, as shopping is my biggest vice.
Got the rest of my tattoo done. And as soon as the peeling process is finished, I will post a photo of it.
Found a few new hobbies to keep me busy over the next few months, one being comics. I know, I know graphic novels. Just the Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 8 and the Angel ones. As well, I now have a few more video games in the collection. And I am asking myself when did that happen?

Now if I can just figure out how to get the pictures from my cell phone into my computer I would be rocking.

One Fifth Avenue by Candace Bushnell.....part two

I just finished reading this novel.
I managed to read it in under 3 days. Any other author's work would have that a record for me, but Candace Bushnell's books are like chocolate candies to me. Once you pick it up you can't stop till its gone.

Two characters I wish she had spent more time on- Philip and Schiffer. They were a fabulous idea but could have used some extra chapters on them as a couple. I hope Bushnell is thinking of bringing them back in other novels.

I found myself really really hating, just hating the character of Lola. I just kept waiting for something horrible to happen to her. I hated that character because she was written too well, like too many twenty-somethings I have to deal with in real life.

Without giving away too much of the story -it centers around a group of people living in a very colourful and gritty building on One Fifth Avenue in New York. Two married couples, a famous writer, a movie star, an aged society lady, and a tart. Toss in some stolen art, blackmail, sex and desperation and it is one hell of a read.

The gods must have been whispering in Bushnell's ear when she wrote this, because she peppered it with mentions of Sex and the City, which for fans of hers is all it would take to get the jokes.

This book is worth it to pick up hardcover. It is on my top list of recommends to my friends.
